Ode to Popcorn

By Mrs. Gorecki ~Popcorn~ Popcorn...a simple treat, but so comforting! Healthy, warm, dripping with butter and salt...and usually parmesan cheese. The sound of popcorn popping in a hot pot on the stove, the SMELL....the smell and sound of butter sizzling in the pan....and so versatile, too! Add butter and cinnamon and sugar and you have a sweet treat! For a special treat....butter (isn't everything best with real butter?!) and hot, homemade CARAMEL!!!! Oh, what a warm, sweet sticky buttery treat! Then, there is the already famous "chili cheese" popcorn...with warm (again) BUTTER, garlic powder, chili powder, salt and parmesan cheese....delicious! Can't you just smell the popcorn now?! (for those of you who will be at FUSE on Saturday....there will be a big bowl of popcorn waiting for you!) Thank you Mrs. Gorecki for being the first participant! Hopefully, there will be more poems to post in the very near future!

Coffee Cures the 4 O'Clock Crankies

Haha. I just noticed that I always write about food on my blog. I don't even know why...maybe because I love it so much. Any ways... I have found a cure for every afternoon illness known to man... it's simple. It's sitting right there on the counter of most people's homes... it's a coffee pot! Oh my gosh! All you have to do is brew a little coffee, mix it with some chocolate and milk... and you have yourself the best medication ever! Also, while I am on the subject of food, I thought I would write an ode to my last Pirouette Cookie. Here it goes... Ode To The Pirouette Oh there you are sitting in your tin. You wait for me to choose you. You know I'll choose you, because you are the last. Your crispy roundness calls my name. I want to taste of the chocolate hazelnut heaven. I can't believe you are the last. Oh that creamy center that seems to be the best ever. It's soft and sweet. I wish you could last forever. The finger goes in. I pick you up. And in y...

7 Days of Prayer

Image
A great Friday evening at the G's NO. I did not fall of the face of the earth. :-) It has been exactly one week since my last post. Fo some of you, I know that it has been rather annoying to look at my Java Chip post with the cucumber picture (I' won't mention any names... you know who you are lol.) But, this week has been an incredibly blessed week in regards to my spiritual life. The reason that I haven't posted in a week is that I wanted to take some time off from blogging to pray for some things. And like Mr. Hetrick's message on Sunday, God has been faithful to meet me in multiples of ways. So there is definitely something to be said for giving God your whole self as a sacrifice to His cause. He will give the desires of your heart, as long as they are within His will! If you desire something, pray and truely seek God on it, and He will be faithful to answer. Here's to another great Tuesday!

A Java Chip on My Day Off

A tribute to the lunch I will be having shortly... a delicious salad with sun driend tomato vinagarette dressing! Today is amazing! I got to sleep in until 9:30, and then woke up to kisses form Benjamin! What a happy way to wake up! lol. I have been lounging around all morning and made a homemade Java Chip Frappuccino. They are so much better homemade! No offense to Starbucks, but their coffee is too acidic for my liking. I;'m not saying that I'll never go to Starbucks again, but once again... that home made is so much better :-) Another cool thing is that I get to help with the product bags for the curricculum fair this year. They will be the coolest ever, because I get to pick what goes in it!!! Hopefully all of my ideas will work out. I'm really excited about it!

The Worst Thing You Could Ever Do

And I'm doing it right now. I am eatnig ice cream at 11:30 at night... in my bed. I normally don't do so awful a deed, but I figured, eh, what the heck. It's a holiday that currently celebrates my singleness! lol. I'll eat ice cream late at night in my bed today... just because I want to. lol. Then run like 5 miles tomorrow to burn it off. I must asmit that I feel slightly guilty as the little chunks of carmel and chocolatey pecans enter my mouth and I know that it's going to go straight to my hips, but like I said... it's justifyable for tonight because I never do it otherwise, and I eat pretty healthily most of the time. So. I try. I try real hard. But today was an exception. :-) I also have to account for the half a thing of cheese fries I shared with my bro and friends this afternoon... It wasn't all me. But it was mostly. Hey. It was my lunch. Another year of happy and contented singleness is here and now! (Working on the contentedness. l...

My Paper is Complete!

After a couple of days of trying to sit down and write my psyc. paper, quietness finally came this afternoon! I am so glad to finally have it off my plate. Here it is if any of you would like to read it... The Brain and Aggressive Behavior The brain can be held responsible for everything that ever goes on in the human body. It plays a huge role in our daily lives because it is what controls our behavior and interactions with other humans. Depending on the situation, the brain can respond to a stimulus in either a positive or negative way. When the brain responds negatively and causes a person to act out in anger or violence, it is called aggression. There are two portions of the brain that handle aggression and the response to an aggressive stimulus, the frontal lobe and the serotonin, a brain chemical. The frontal lobe of the brain is in charge of many diverse tasks such as motor skills, blinking, and holding the information necessary for personality. One of the first developme...

Making Friends Statewide

Its not as hard as it seems! Really. You go to class, talk to some people, and give them your IM. Its wayyy better than talking on the phone or emailing. Its instant. its there. right. now. no awkward meeting people till you already know them. it's my newest favoritest thing ever. The downside is that it is super addicting. But it's good practice for self control. haha. I try to win that battle daily, and most of the time I do. :-) Texting is the same way, but it might be better than IMing, because you can sometimes put off replying if you want to. It's not so instant, but it's semi-instant for on the go commnuications. I like it :-) What do you all prefer?

Cool Nerdy Stuff...

The human brain is something that has always (for some reason unknown to me) deeply intrigued me. In psych this week, I get to write a short research paper on how the frontal lobe of the brain and serotonin relate to aggression. Needless to say, I am very excited about the headway I have been making. Here are some of the links if, by some chance, you might be interested in doing a little reading on the topic... Center for Neuro Skills... http://www.neuroskills.com/tbi/bfrontal.shtml MSNBC Roadmap to the Brain... http://www.msnbc.com/modules/brain/brainmap.swf Scholastic Teachers Site... http://teacher.scholastic.com/professional/bruceperry/aggression_violence.htm Also, I think it's important to say that I don't agree with all of what is on each site, but for basic information like what I needed, it's pretty cool. I will post my research paper when I finish it towards the end of this week. Other than that, I have been dealing with a lot of stress related to friendship stu...

For friends and coffee! Last night was so fun over at Meghan and Sara's. We made homemade coffee drinks and ate popcorn while watching, one of my faves!, The Phantom of the Opera. It was sooooo good! Other than the fact that I spilled my coffee down my shirt within the first fifteen minutes of the movie! lol. Today will be good. Probably some minor cleaning and basketball games, then babysitting in the evening! I am so excited for this job, the kids are amazing, and they pay great! There are five kids, but two are 10 and 11, so they basically take care of themselves, and the other three, 8, 6, and 3, all put themselves to be when the older ones do. It is seriously amazing! Well, Anyhoo. I should get off here and do something useful with my time. :-) Thanks for having me over last night Meg and Sara! It was great!

A Sea Of Endless Light (my view from the air plane) Was a lot better than last week regarding schoolwork. I didn't have to go to ever online session through out the day, so I was able to actually work on my subjects while I was scheduled to do school... not for homework. It is the dumbest thing ever to be homeschooled and have to do homework after you did work all day. The funny thing is, that to non-homeschoolers, what we homeschoolers classify as schoolwork, they think of as "homework." I suppose that their view is technically correct because we are doing school at home, but it bothers me for some reason. It must be the association that my brain has with the word "homework." A not pleasant, time consuming, thing that you start around 4 o'clock in the afternoon... maybe you get lucky and only have an hour's worth, maybe you aren't so fortunate and it takes up 4 hours of your time AFTER school! Whatever it is, I am glad that it's over! I haven...

Spirit Week Fun

Ok, so this week at Agora is Spirit Week. I'm not exactly sure how this works, because it's nothing like the Spirit Week at school where you wear a different thing everyday of the week and everyone matches. Today is School Somewhere Cool, so I am posting from the Library currently. I have math and psychology left to complete and I feel good about what I got done this morning. This is probably the quietest place I have been in the last two months... and its good! I can actually hear myself think, I can concentrate, I can talk to myself if I want... especially since the lady next to me is doing so herself. lol :-) She's doing taxes or something strenuous like that. It's kind of funny actually. I am coming back to do this more often. It is so relaxing!!

Best. roller coaster. ever. Today was just an ordinary day. Just like all of the others. Except everyone was in an exceptionally good mood. Sarcastic comments were taken lightly and interpreted as funny, giggles were passed quite a bit, and we had a few breakdowns... but we got though them (love you, Hannah!) hehe. Have you ever wondered why people lie? I have been pondering that thought as of late. I have narrowed it down to a few reasons, but I'm willing to get your imput on any that you think I missed... 1. Insecurity 2. Desire for attention 3. To protect themselves 4. To hide something 5. To make themselves look better in front of others 6. To make themselves feel better. I just wonder sometimes why people are willing to go to such extremes to lie? Like take for instance the whole Akon age thing. Thats just totally ridiculous. Just because he's 31 doesn't mean he has to lie and say he's 21. He's not at the end of his line, he's just older than some of the o...
